How to Choose the Right Building Surveyor

By ruiiid5

If you are considering hiring a building surveyor to get estimates for the cost of a renovation, remodel or to check over a property you are interested in buying, it’s a good idea to do a little homework on your potential surveyor to make sure that he or she is suitable for the job. Building surveys can be used for many things, but it’s especially useful in determining what your building’s condition is and whether there are any hidden problems that weren’t revealed during a visual inspection. The typical building surveyor will give you a written report with all the repairs that are included in the estimate, as well as their cost, a title description (which can also include an estimate of the market value of the property), and a disclosure statement, which explains any problems that were found during the building survey and what they mean.

Make sure your potential building surveyor is familiar with the structure of your home. Even if he or she is experienced in traditional architectural design, a modern building survey should be able to produce a comparable floor plan based on current building codes. This is especially important for vendors.

Building surveyors should also make sure they have the experience and facilities necessary to complete the kind of building project you’re requesting. These factors will all factor into your final decision as you select your building surveyor.
